Moira McCaffery (Robertson)

Moira first started to study art in Madrid at the Siena school of Arte y Decoracion, and at the Atelier of Edoardo Pena.
Continued studies took her to Munich where she completed a year’s drawing course at the Studio of Heinrich Konig. From there she went to Paris for two years, to the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, and then finally to London for two years, where she painted at the Kathleen Browne School of Art, run by Kathleen Browne and her husband, the Polish painter Marian Kratochwil , and concurrently at the Sir John Cass College of Art in Whitechapel with Louise Gordon. Moira also attended classes given by Ruskin Speare.
More recently Moira completed a painting course with Rebecca Harp (Atelier Harp) in Florence.

Exhibitions

These include a solo exhibition at the Setanta Gallery in Dublin in the late ‘70’s, following commissions to paint portraits of dancers, Rudolph Nureyev and Natalia Makarova. (One of her drawings of Nureyev was included in John Percival’s Biography: Nureyev, Aspects of the Dancer). Subsequently, while Moira was bringing up her family, she continued contributing to several mixed shows in Southern Ireland. The most recent Exhibition was in September 2009 at the 12 Star Gallery in London (with two other artists).
Moira teaches Art in Adult Education Centres, and also works with local Painting groups.She intends offering Residential Courses at her home, Huntington Castle, in Co. Carlow. These will be conducted both by herself and by visiting Artists.
